Fire and TV
(A Fluxx Goal?)
Today was dominated by two things. One significant, one time consuming.
We'd been randomly chosen for a Fire inspection and that happened this morning.
Back in the days of resourced emergency services places like here would have had a regular fire 'certificate' issued by a local fire officer. Since 2006, however, the process is one of self-certification - which might sound good but in practice means that amateurs like ourselves have to guess what is the 'right' level of protection.
There are 'helpful' documents out there which range from "Well, you have to provide the right level" through to detail specifications for Armageddon-proofing a skyscraper.
Of course, this level of useless information provides happy hunting grounds for scaremongers who will write your Fire Risk Assessment for you whilst making teeth-sucking noises.
Therefore, when an inspector turns up you really have no idea what to expect.
Reassuringly, we passed the inspection with only a couple of trivial tweaks to the house being necessary. I was rather pleased that the inspector's comment on the Risk Analysis that I'd written was to the effect that I should set up business writing them.
I must practice my teeth-sucking noises.

The other 'trivial' job was to fit the TV to the wall. That took an hour.
Finding the bits and the instructions took four. Sigh.
