Standing on a solid base

Late afternoon walk to the beach. This little guy, less high than our dinner table , two years at the most , had come with a group of toddlers and two dogs, maybe a daycare group, that I will put in the extras.
Two other kids were flying there kites which also made for a very pretty sight.
And last but not least the sunlight on the waves turned out to have surprising colors when I downloaded the pictures. No working on the colors from my part. Does anybody know how this could have happened? It looked like gleaming lead to me, looking into the sun on the waves. It came out quite colorful, with pink and green....
