Senghenydd Mining Disaster 100 year Anniversary
Senghenydd Colliery Disaster (14 OCT 1913) and the stone memorial. Inset is a stone tablet, nearby, in tribute to my great grandfather William Rowlands (maternal side).
The explosion killed 439 miners and one rescuer. It is the worst mining accident in the United Kingdom, and one of the most serious globally in terms of loss of life.
