Risipeni's loss

Risipeni seems like quite a small village, tucked away in the peaceful Moldovan countryside with a rural lifestyle that has not seen many changes in the last hundred years.
This war memorial, painted strikingly in gold and black, stands above six plaques bearing the names of soldiers from this place who lost their lives in World War 11 - over 100 names.
And it depicts the mother's grief as well as the son's courage and determination to go to war.
What a waste of young lives. What a loss to this community and what grief their families had to bear, alongside the normal hardships of life in this land.
