Simplicity

Sometimes I just need to see a sweet chickadee enjoying the suet to remember that life isn't all that complicated.  I've been helping my sweet daughter cope with a breakup after more than 5 years, and it's hard, and it feels overwhelming.  But out of the sadness, hopefully there will be joy and new love and freedom.  And it's not that complicated.  These hard days will be behind her very soon and the freshness of fall will feel good and keep her strong. So I need to remember that, and enjoy the little things.

There’s a bird in a tree with a hinge in its throat, a door opening to let the sweet air pass from a high, thin place down a notch. There’s phlox out there, opening between one black and another black hanging branch of an apple tree—the very tree that holds the bird that bends the air so parenthetically around itself, and its song around anything listening.”
