A relic of the war...
...an old guard house right at the top of the hill, now gone to ruin, but nevertheless sheltering a handful of sheep, and blipped today as a nod to Derelict Thursday.
During the war, the armaments factories in Sheffield used to ship their product out here to the back of beyond, so there wouldn't be too big a bang if there was a direct hit in the city ( and they wouldn't lose too many valuable assets! ). There were several of these guard houses on the roads in the area; some have gone and some have been taken over by local farmers.
The extra shows how the walls were moved back and the verges widened so munitions could be stored there, under camouflage nets so as not to advertise their presence too much.
