tongue tied
I wish I could have blipped the scene I saw this morning.
I’m lying on my back and above my head, a large white circle of light. To the left and right of my field of vision, two pairs of goggles. The goggles on my right are pulling my tongue to one side. On my left, a needle and thread comes in and out of view. It’s this that makes me laugh (if I could). It’s like someone’s darning a sock in my mouth.
I’ve had a biopsy on my tongue. The doctor (left goggles) stitches the wound, while the nurse (right goggles) holds my tongue steady. I half expect her to place her finger on the knot when the sowing stops.
Anniemay is given a list of do’s and don’ts for the next 24 hours; the gist of it involves me lying on the sofa being waited on hand and foot. I can’t really complain because I’m tongue-tied.
In anticipation of some sort of post-surgical ban on all things pleasurable, I took this photo of a fizzy drink bottle, before we went to the hospital. It’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
