Damselfly

This is a mature female Eastern Forktail damselfly.  Damselflies are related to dragonflies, and have a similar diet of other insects such as flies, gnats, aphids, mayflies, and ants.  They do not sting or bite.  Damselflies are on the small side, and this specimen is about an inch long.

The sun filtered through the clouds gently backlighting the subject, and the damselfly stayed put for 40 seconds which was more than long enough to take this photo. It was a cool morning, slowing insect activity.
