Life from city to village

The Riverbank

This was the River Aire from Leeds Bridge, around lunchtime.  My daughter and I were exploring, having been shopping (school clothes) and spotted some kind of event down by the Tetley on the way back. We'd stopped to look, but given that it was a "banging House festival", we decided it wasn't for us, and walked up towards the city. The area we were in is undergoing a process of 'gentrification'. What was derelict old industries, is slowly being transformed. Where I'd parked was next to a waste ground, but in the next street was now a trendy bar - and its surprisingly close to the bridge and city.

Looking down the river, you can see Leeds Minster, and Calls Landing - which is now a trendy arts/cafe/bar area. But there are still buildings with boarded up windows. It will be interesting to see how property values change in the area, and how it will change the shops. We found an Italian place right by the bridge. Lunch cost us £20 for two (with drinks) but was completely superb. My salad looked and tasted as if it had come from a TV show or cooking competition. It had lettuce, thinly sliced beetroot, carrot, apple, pomegranate, cherry tomatoes...And the Penne Arrabiata was gorgeous. Bit of a treat, but it was worth it!
