Day 1: Bangkok
Hello hello hello, welcome to my blip page! I'm going to be using this as a sort of journal for my travels over the next 8 weeks, and update it as often as I can find some internet.
Today was our first full day in Bangkok - yesterday was spent catching up on the sleep I haven't had for the last week and meeting the rest of our Thaintro group. Lots of lovely people and had a big night out last night, plenty of buckets! Our group leader Tom gave us a bag of crickets and frogs to eat which were actually surprisingly nice! (I had a frog, not a cricket, the legs creeped me out).
So today was much more eventful - we had a boat cruise down the Bangkok river and had a look at some temples - stunning stuff. The first temple played host to some horrifically steep steps that were terrifying to walk up and down. The second temple had about 1500 statues of Buddha's (not an exaggeration), hence today's blip, including an absolutely huge Buddha that was filled with brick and plaster and the outside covered in real gold. After the temples we got a tuk tuk through Bangkok's crazy roads back to the hostel - not going to lie, it was terrifying. I would never ever drive in Bangkok, there are just no rules, any patch of road is fair game.
Had some time to relax when we got back and going out to dinner with the rest of the group in a bit, probably then followed by more buckets!
Have to say even though we've only been in Thailand for a day, it's completely different to anything I've ever experienced - I can't wait to see what else is waiting outside Bangkok.
