The end of the day...
Most of today was spent in Claughton Quarry, monitoring the restoration areas. When we arrived the sky was blue and we had amazing views over Morecombe Bay and into the Lake District. As the day went on the clouds gathered, but it stayed dry and we got all the work done in good time.
We arrived back at the hotel about five, and after changing out of our bright orange safety gear there wasn't much time to do anything else before dinner. So we had a walk round Hornby village, watching the peat-stained water of the River Lune rushing over the weir, getting views of the rather forbidding tower of Hornby Castle and finding this wildflower verge, full of cornfield weeds, which was the brightest spot in the rather gloomy conditions that prevailed.
