My son has a comfort object in the shape of a stuffed-toy monkey.
He selected it to be female and even chose her name - Emma. Quite where he got this name from is beyond us. There is no Emma in his Nursery, either in the form of staff or pupils.
According to a survey last year, about 35% of British adults still sleep with a teddy bear. This sounds very strange at first but it was also revealed that people who sleep with comfort objects are in fact more independent than those who do not. The theory being that children who use a comfort object are more likely to detach themselves from their parents because of the increase in security which the blanket provides.
