Chalkie Davies
The idea for today's blip came from my eldest daughter - she suggested that my youngest daughter should join The Specials!
Today's pictures were taken at National Museum in Cardiff at the exhibition of Chalkie Davies' photographs for the NME in the 1970's and early 1980's.
Although my day's of buying the NME came later (late '80's - mid 90's), I'm delighted to see these iconic pictures of my musical heroes - Costello, Bowie, The Jam, Julian Cope, The Clash...
There's an air of sadness. A few weeks ago I bought a copy of the 'last ever' edition of the NME - an excellent retrospective of the last 63 years, issued before it becomes a 'free-sheet' . I don't really 'do' nostalgia, but I really enjoyed the era of discovering about music through the weekly 'inkies' like the NME.
The Extra Photos (mobile users go here) are of my wife and Johnny Rotten, my eldest daughter and Mick Jones of The Clash and me and Elvis Costello and Julian Cope.
