Pull back the curtains and what do I see!

I never take photos first thing in the morning...I am not a morning person.  But today I broke my rule when I pulled back the curtains to see our new young lady ducklings playing together in the pond...watched carefully by the heron.

The ducklings are very shy so I couldnt risk going outside to get closer.  I watched the ducklings splashing around getting nearer to the heron but all seemed to be well.  I think they are a bit too big now for the heron to tackle. They all eventually went their separate ways

You can see that in spite of all the rain the water level in the pond is pretty low.  We hope we get a top up flooding of the stream over the winter.
