The Barrows...
Therebye hangs a tale...
In the 11th century the monks occupied a "Monkery" (g) situated on the tip of the headland, to the right off the picture... overlooking Morecambe Bay.
The term " Barrows" I believe is an age old term for coffin??
I'll put an extra of the Monastery on, so you can see all that's left now are the ruins and this huge rock into which the remains of the Abbots were placed as one by one they shuffled off this mortal coil..one of the strangest resting places in the UK I would imagine.
A bit chilly in Winter:)
