Featherweight

This feather caught my eye among the polygonum or Himalayan fleeceflower. It looked so delicate, held precariously at its base by a few wispy filaments of a spider's web among this tough ground cover plant. The extra flower photo is a patch of polygonum - a wonderful perennial  that never fails. Its leaves turn a glorious red in the autumn and you can see the process just starting in the leaf on the right. I manage a cycle run along the canal in the late afternoon and could not resist a shot of a group of almost fully grown cygnets feeding at the water's edge.
