A walk and a Cat!
Jonty heard something in the bushes, stuck his nose in to have a look and then shot into the dark interior. Next thing was a tortiseshell cat tearing out about Mach2 with Jonty hot on his heels. I shouted at Jonty, which made him hesitate long enough for the cat to get away.
He still ran into the bushes on the opposite side where the cat had disappeared into but it was long gone, thank goodness.
HilaryinOman - don't know if you've spotted this monument in the extra photo, the Gregorian date is shown at the bottom left 11 / 12 / 2005.
If you want to see what Hilf looked like when I was there in the late 60's I've posted another extra photo, this is where all of those building and shops are now.
The dwellings are made of 45 gallon oil drums, cardboard, wood, sheets of plywood and corrugated iron, anything they could get hold of and scrounge from the RAF Camp.
They were prohibited from having permanent dwellings, for 100 years, by the Sultan in 1904 after they had slaughtered the crew of a lifeboat from the SS Baron Innerdale.
The story is related on my website but there is an even fuller explanation on wreck site website - 132027http://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?132027
Look further down the page on the left. The ship was refloated only to sink after a collision 10 years later in 1914.
