Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep
Travel Diary:
We woke up on our first full day in Chian Mai. We decided to visit the Doi Suthep nature park with the Wat Phrathat temple.
We took a Tuk Tuk to Chian Mai university (we found them to be a lot more reliable in this town than Bankok!)
From the university we took a converted pickup truck minibus, the same that you find all over Chian Mai, up the twisty mountian road to the temple.
There are steps up to the temple lined with stalls selling clothes as well as the usual street food. The temple itself was very nice, but quite busy. Afterwards we took a bus further up the mountain.
Courtney: We got a red truck up the road with a really nice lady from New Zealand to a palace. The gardens were really pretty and peaceful, not many people up there. There was a nice jungley oath which was really cool and a big resevoir (which was built for the queen I think) with lots of fountains. Lots of big butterflies flying around, couldn't get a photo, too fast and pesky.
Afterwards we headed into Chiang Mai. In the evening we went to AUM vegetarian, high up on lonely planet. Really small place. I had a mixed fruit smoothie (which was soo good) and a pad Thai which was soo yummy. Steve had the cashew nut stir fry, (always tempted by cashew nuts) which was equally amazin and was all soo cheap. We also had a side of somosas and steve had a beer. Was all about 300 Baht.
