rue du Thermopyles

This used to be a market garden area (maraicher) in the Alesia neighborhood in Paris, until as recently as just 10 years ago!  But the generation of farmer peasants here have all died off, and the city has now converted the area into a small neighborhood park, and a small apartment building and small gardens  for underprivileged. This part has kept the former look of the narrow cobblestone street with grass growing in it.  A bit further on are numerous artist workshops, including the one where the sculptor  Giacometti worked in the early 1930's.
