On the western shore of Lake Michigan, graffiti memorials bear witness to a different sort of boundary. The graduating youth of Northwestern University come here to set down their pithy - and often heartfelt - commentary at the moment of their crossing into adulthood. Some trite, some cryptic, many amusing but most prompting a momentary wistfulness in someone who had almost forgotten what it was like to stare into the hinterland of adult life and feel the sudden and irresistible need to celebrate and commemorate our connection to those with whom we'd travelled the halcyon days of college. Over the next few days I'll share some of these stone roses with you.
