Mama's Candle

It's called a "Yarhzeit Candle" . Yarhzeit...the celebration of the anniversary of a death. Celebration of death??? That's right. It is a chance to reflect on the life of someone you love and miss. 24 hours of light...introspection, reminiscing. Candles are traditionally only lit for direct family although many will light for those they know/love and maybe even for Holocaust survivors who otherwise would have no one to light for them.

My Mom died June 16, 1989...just like this year it was Saturday night with Sunday being Father's Day. Dad had passed away nine years before so Father's Day was already tough...now a double whammy.

23 years...gone in the blink of an eye...and we didn't always see eye to eye...but she was my Mom...to this day...very missed.
