Day Lily

As I walked to the library, these were blooming in many gardens. As a child we spent the summer in an old school house in Vermont. There was an enormous patch of these in our front yard. Enough so that we could try all the recommended harvest methods by Euell Gibbons, the first natural foods author, to saute the lily buds, and the tubers that they grew out of. After exhausting the possibilities of day lilies, we went across the field to harvest the pollen of cattails. Those were the days of youth.
