Theatre of dreams

After a meal out with friends in Colchester tonight we visited the old football ground, home of Colchester United FC. I used to be a season ticket holder and we moved to a brand new stadium 4 years ago. (I stopped going a year ago when I moved out if the area.)

The former theatre of dreams has only recently had the old grandstands removed and it is in this sorry state that we saw it last night. In another photo I managed to get a nice sunset in the sky but little detail of the desolate remains of the hallowed ground. Was this really the place where the mighty Leeds United were humbled in 1971? I'm afraid so.

I was reminded of the final auction of memorabilia at the stadium when the local MP, a former mayor of the town and now a knight of the realm, purchased a penalty spot. It was one of the few pieces of 'turf' that had no grass on it!
