Puffball on the Feeder

Dear Diary,

Every morning this week when I get up in the morning I find this little puffball on the feeder.  It clearly looks fast asleep to me and I wonder if he spends the night there.  I think it is a young gold finch.  He eventually wakes up and turns around and starts to feed...breakfast in bed!  I had to shoot through the window screen so as not to disturb him so it's not the best image.

I don't usually put the feeders up this early but my dear neighbor across the street suffered a stroke a few weeks ago and hasn't been feeding the birds so they have been coming to raid Philomena and Hoover's seed bowls.  Naturally I immediately put up the feeders.

The other day I caused a traffic jam on my road when I stopped the car in the middle of the road to allow a small turtle to cross.  He would have been squashed otherwise.  I thought I could pick him up and carry him but he was determined to walk on his own so I walked behind him until he got safely across.  No one seemed to mind the hold up.  I wish I had my camera with me!
