Akureyrarvaka - Akureyri birthday festival

Can towns and villages have birthdays?  Well, here in Akureyri we do.
The Birthday of Akureyri is celebrated annually on the last weekend of August. The opening ceremony of the festival always takes place on Friday evening in the Botanical Garden.  We didn't attend yesterday evening, but decided to go and see some exhibitions and the buzzing life of the town center today.
Lots to see and experience, it was a lovely day.
In the photo we see "Vandræðaskáld / Muses of misfortune" performing in Götubarinn.  They are Sesselía Ólafsdóttir, actor and director, and Vilhjálmur B. Bragason, playwriter and author (interview in Icelandic on youtube).
