Bridges
Went to the Open Doors on the Caledonian Canal. Interesting as I have only ever done the other end at Corpach. Here are the four locks at the Muittown Basin, the swingbridge, main road, and in the background the Kessock Bridge.
Telford started the construction of the canal to facilitate movement of frigates in the Napoleonic War. It took nineteen years, however, and the wars were long finished by then!
The swingbridge was placed here in 1938 and takes just seven minutes to open and close, thus the traffic is not impeded unduly, despite local protest!
