We had a walk round the corner today, to here, Melford Hall! Not bad for something just on our doorstep. We could actually see the place that we're staying from it! Quite an interesting place, had all sorts of history from the 1500s through to the 1950s. And of course lots of Beatrix Potter stuff as she used to stay there as she was the wife's cousin or something like that. She kept an assortment of small pet animals in the tower next to her room! Other than that lots of history from the Elizabethan era (including some genuine Tudor stained glass that you rarely see) through to the 1950s as I say, when a lot of it had to be remodelled after a fire that happened during the war (a careless private's stray cigarette I suspect! It wasn't a bomb or anything). We also found a very good pub nearby that we shall go to again!
I caught this in the back garden of the house at the end of our tour, the sun decided to grace us with its presence. It has at various points today, though never for long. Very cold for the most part! Thankfully Dad's figured out the heating back at where we're staying so we're good and cozy...
