Day 11
There's no doubt about it, Streaky Bay is just a little piece of heaven. We've had a really relaxing day with our friends today. Plenty of time to share stories and catch up on 55 years of life.
A major feature of the bay are the squadron of pelicans that live here and obviously feel so safe that one would let me get this close to him to take an image that would eventually find its way onto the world wide web!!
We have one more day in Streaky Bay before heading off on the big trek across the Nullabor. On Tuesday we will reach the gates at the "Head of the Bight" in readiness to visit the centre early the next morning. We just hope that we are lucky enough to witness a miracle of nature, the Southern Right Whales taking refuge in the bay at the head of the Australian Bight while they nurture their new born calves. Our friends were just overwhelmed when they visited a couple of days ago. When CCN and I drove across Australia in January 2013 we visited the location but of course it wasn't the breeding season. We vowed and declared we would make sure we visited in August September in the hope that we could witness this amazing phenomenon.
