The Smugglers Inn, Osmington Mills
This morning N had a MRI scan and he was allowed out of hospital for a couple of hours in the afternoon so we drove down to Osmington Mills on the coast to get some sea air and have a cup of tea and some delicous summer pudding! The Crown, as the pub was called then, was a great smugglers haunt being off the beaten track and hidden down in a dip. Emmanuel Carless was the landlord and he used to do business with Pierre Latour (known as French Peter who was a gang leader from Weymouth) and his fast clipper L'Hirondelle. Pierre managed to continually slip through the hands of the Revenue officers and finally retired, marrying the landlord's daughter, Arabella Carless. This all happened a couple of hundred years ago! The pub is now a great tourist trap in season and the coastal path goes right past it.
After depositing N at the lift to go up to his ward I sped home only to get a telephone call as I walked through the door to say the MRI scan was absolutely clear and he was coming home! If only I had gone with him to the ward but fortunately T had to drop someone off at Maiden Newton and could then go on and fetch him.
