Tunnel Cottages

A bit different today.
My friend sent me this picture to see what I thought of the new porch roof she has just finished over their front door. They constructed it themselves, for less than a third of what a local carpenter had quoted them, so they are rightly pleased with the result.
And now the background to this house ........
This is where I was born and brought up. Literally born, in the back bedroom.
I lived here for 20 years before purchasing the adjoining cottage and living on my own next to Mum. Dad had long since flown the nest and they were divorced when I was 13.
Then when I met hubby, I lived with him for a while in Luton, then we moved back to my house, renovated it, extended it, had our son there and lived very happily for the next 20 years.
Mum's health deteriorated and she is now happy in her own little world in a lovely care home not too far away. That was 2011.
In 2012 we sold (her) house to a lovely couple, who have spend the last couple of years completely transforming the house. A new full height extension, completely different layout inside and its pretty much finished now. The front porch roof sets it off.
We moved away in 2012, but have ended up not too far away, having rented our house out for a year and then selling that too.
So my ties with the cottages are over after living there for nearly 48 years!
Except we've made really good friends with the couple who bought Mums, and so I thought I'd blip her photo today so you can see the changes they've made externally at least.
