The great Mermaid moult
It is a little known fact, but nonetheless true, that Mermaids moult their hair each year. In the North Sea the moult usually takes place in the first week of September. Consequently our local beach is currently scattered with clumps of hair washed up by the tide. This example is clearly the lustrous hair of a young mermaid who had added the red highlights that have been so fashionable this year.
