Feral chooks
We spent 2 weeks on Niue, and loved the warm weather, relaxed atmosphere, and interesting flora and fauna. However, the bird guide had not alerted us to the ubiquitous presence of wild chickens. They are absolutely everywhere, and the cockerels call incessantly, day and night. Hens with a retinue of chicks scurry across the road. It is a miracle that more of them don't fall foul of car tyres. The speed limit is only 60 km/hr, or 40 km/hr through the villages, so I presume that most of the time they manage to run just fast enough.
Some of the indigenous wildlife will follow in future posts, as I slowly catch up.
