Just before 1100 on Thursday - we stepped off the train in Milngavie
Just after 1100 On Monday, we're on the platform in Fort William.

In the intervening 96 hours, we walked the 96 miles of the West Highland Way. A bit of time to relax together....

Day 3
Stiff but not prohibitively so. We lazed around and left before 10, fully laden again but less to do. Sunny, gorgeous summers day like we haven't seen enough of this year. Midges long gone with the late start, too.

After a sharp climb back to the path, then a pointless (another pointless!) meander through a spruce forest, we emerged into Strathfillan and a really pleasant walk up to Tyndrum; glorious views south to Ben More / Cruach Ardrain, west to Ben Lui et al and north to the corbetts. Heather blooming, a gentle cool breeze. We made steady progress (no pressure today at all), and rolled into Tyndrum after midday.

We bought lunch and wine for later and carried on out of town, up steeply and then as we got towards Ben Dorrain, the views opened out again, stretching away to the Black Mount. We stopped for a leisurely lunch in the sunshine on a grassy hill side, in awe of it all.

And then another couple of hours later, we were in our destination for the day - Bridge of Orchy.

The hostel was closed so - pub - what else? Couple of pints on the verandah at the back in the searing sun and then it to the hostel.

Fawlty Towers doesn;t come close...! But a gorgeous dinner, sloe gin with David from Huddersfield - into his seventies and having a fair crack at the WHW. And to bed in a bunk whilst outside the plush Royal Scotsman lay berthed for the night, all crystal glasses and black tie going on.

Practically a rest day. 60 miles down, 36 left. Done in 5 and a half hours.

The view north descending towards Bridge of Orchy, Black Mount off in the distance.
