Year 1
Well, the day has come.... back to school. Starting out in Year 1. She goes back to school 2 teeth down on last year, 10cm taller and able to tie her shoe laces on her fabulous new shoes that she was incredibly excited to wear. So I had to make sure they were in the shot.
Yr 1 things she's looking forward to:
Starting Routines dance
Serving herself her own vegetables and salad at lunch
Playing in the big playground without having to be counted out by the Foundation staff
Doing nativity with y2
Going to the theatre and on more trips.
Her new teachers "Because they're fantastic in y1, Mummy. I will miss my Foundation teachers though, but they've said they will come say hello".
She came out of school very chatty. The day has not excelled in her opinion- "ok, ish" was her verdict. She liked doing a self portrait ("mrs h is going to show me how to draw my French plaits tomorrow") and writing about her holiday ("'mrs h asked me to describe my new shoes because I talked about them so I did. And I got a marble for my writing. It was small and neat, mama") but she was very cross at the suggestion they need knife and fork practise, and the activity that has been provided to facilitate this ("it's silly mummy, I can do my knife and fork well. So I just played with the pretend food"). She said later that the y1 classrooms are rubbish and the toys are rubbish. In her defence, she's gone from the biggest and best equipped rooms to the smallest and least well equipped rooms- I just didn't expect her to notice so quickly and obviously. She liked having three proper playtimes. She used the pretend food to make up her own sharing/fractions game with her friend. She said they learnt about indepence- "which means getting on and doing things for yourself and working by yourself". And she "ate all her lunch but there wasn't vegetables, just salad". I think y1 will improve in her mind when the proper work begins and when all the fun starts like the art trip in October, and dance class on Wednesday.
She went to bed with her music and book. I fully expect to find the book beside her sleeping head...
