Now, as I see it......

A walking day

I said a few days ago there were likely to be a few steam train blips, and here's another one.

Today started a bit drizzly again but we determined we would go for a walk anyway. We walked from Grosmont to Goathland, and then down to the waterfalls at Mallyan Spout. From there we walked across to Beck Hole where we had lunch in the pub (menu: pork pie and pickle or a Beck Hole Butty), and then back to Grosmont. Altogether about eight miles with quite a few climbs up and down, and an enjoyable walk.

And the steam engine? It's a 'Q6' ex North Eastern Railway freight engine, no 63395 leaving Goathland station for Grosmont. I have a special affection for this engine having spent several happy hours 46 years ago in an inspection pit underneath it in a depot in Thornaby, chipping six inches of congealed oil off its axles when it was first being overhauled for preservation!
