20 years
20 years ago, Mr S and I were married in St James's Church in Renfrew.
A raucous event which involved stealing heather from neighbours gardens the night before to make buttonholes, an influx of Irish, an afternoon reception in a Castle, and an evening Ceilidh in a special place with a VERY cheap bar !
The honeymoon was two nights at Portpatrick, a week at the Edinburgh Festival (it was later in those days) and an excellent week in Poolewe.
The honeymoon in Poolewe was shared with the Best Man and his (then) girlfriend (now his wife) and their dog. We had a marvellous time. Saw the 7:84 Theatre Company, drank in a bar owned by an ex-celtic player and we were entertained by the minister in 'Take the high Road'.
Our car had a knackered clutch and barely made it up the Corrieshaloch Gorge before we abandoned it in Inverness on the way home.
Nowadays there are expectations of expensive weddings and a glamorous honeymoon in far flung destinations - ours was a bit more home made (my brother's girlfriend screen printed the invitations at the Textile Design college in Galashiels).
Friday we are off to Rome - just Mr S and I. We will have a proscribed list of conversational topics that won't cause and argument !
I expect it to be beautiful....but I doubt it could compare to Wester Ross.
