Rangoli

World Women's Day celebration in Gudalur comes with a lot of colorful stuff: women in beautiful saris, children dressed up as little adults to take part in a pageant and a contest in the art of Rangoli.

Rangoli is like painting with colored sand. First, a geometrical pattern is made out of dots. Then the most beautiful drawings come into being, mostly peacocks and flowers. I don't know if this one won, but the atmosphere was definitely more about taking part than about winning.
