Beehave

I suspect this is a commercial honey bee that’s enjoying my Azaleas, evidently this bee (if I’m correct) was introduced from Europe in about 1822.  Australia has over 1500 species of native bees and I do hope I’ve got a few of them somewhere in my garden.

A bit of trivia for the day; the Australian honey bee industry produces between 20,000 and 30,000 tonnes of honey annually.  We export just under 5,000 tonnes and 70 percent of Australian honey is produced from native flora.  I suppose more importantly the Australian agricultural industry wouldn’t survive without these little fellas.
