Final Home Game - The Badgers
The final week of the petanque season starts here for me.
I went down to cheer on our team against our local rivals The Pontyclun Badgers. Me and Dawn still have one more game to play next week in a re-arranged fixture, but this was the final home game for us.
It must be said it wasn't looking too good at half time. Paul and Eileen going down to defeat, and Carl and Rachel suffering some outrageous bad luck when they dropped a five after playing a perfectly acceptable attacking shot. It was too much to make up and we were 2-0 down at half time.
It was a match of two halves, well one final third to be honest. It looked like we were sliding to a 4-0 defeat with both teams struggling in their second games. But sport is rarely about a sprint, and slowly both our teams fought back. Carl and Rachel's bad luck from game one evened out when the Badgers killed the cosh accidentally with their final boule giving us a five, which was decisive. Paul and Eileen were locked at 11-12, when they had a chance to kill the match with boules in hand. Paul only needed one, and shot out the badgers nearest to pick up a two and win.
Another 2-2 draw, but as good as a win when you were 2-0 down at half time! Not a bad way to end the home season. We still have the plate finals day to aim for, and hopefully not finishing bottom of our league, and then boules switch to bowls and the winter season starts!
