Common Darter
Usual walk around the reserve with the spaniel first thing this morning. There were lots of dragonflies around, especially Southern and Migrant Hawkers, a few Emperors and lots of common darters. These are probably the easiest to photograph as they tend to land and rest more frequently than the others. I've noticed that they often land on or close to ground level. The males are a bright orange-red colour and easy to spot while the dull coloured females can be easily overlooked.
