Bristol Doors Open Day - wood carving

The city was heaving with about  20,000 prospective students visiting the University and with all the people out for Open Doors Day.  This carving was in the Royal Fort House one of Bristol's most impressive Georgian houses which is rarely open to the public as it is now part of the University.  This mind wateringly superb wood carving was one of several  by Thomas Paty and it is worth biggifying. The extras are of plasterwork by Thomas Stocking - the bird on the ceiling has a lead beak.  Amazing that everything survived the blitz.
