Floatin' Carlo!

My boy Carlo was in my lap on "cute duty," when we read Ceridwen's dizzying blip for today. I was translating the text into meowan for him and he said to me, "Religion! Ooh, ooh! Hey, look at me --I'm Saint Joseph of Cupertino!"

"The Flying Saint," (also known as "the gaper") had the peculiar habit of flying in the air. "On hearing the names of Jesus or Mary, the singing of hymns during the feast of St. Francis, or while praying at Mass, he would go into a dazed state and soar into the air, remaining there until a superior commanded him under obedience to revive."

It should come as no surprise that Flyin' Joe (1603-1663) is the patron saint of air travelers, aviators, and astronauts. But because he was "remarkably slow-witted," he's also the patron of people with a mental handicap, test takers, and poor students.
