El Teide, Tenerife

This is El Teide on Tenerife. At 12,198 feet, it is Spain's highest peak. A dormant volcano, its last eruption was in 1909. The whole area is a world heritage site. When you see trees and other growth scattered across its otherwise barren lava landscape, you see evidence of how life can re-establish itself, even in the most inhospitable environments.
