National museum trip
It was a day to have a wander in town, so KryptoMart walked a few thousand steps in the city centre, which included a stop at the National Museum in Chambers Street, which is one of my favourite museums.
There is a new exhibition about sculpture in history, which included this rather poignant relief from Palmyra in Syria.
The Limestone funerary relief of a beardless man wearing a tunic and cloak, identified by an inscription in Aramaic over the left shoulder as Maliku, son of Borrepha: Ancient Mediterranean, found in Palmyra, Syria, Roman Period, c. 150 AD.
Bearing in mind the desperate situation in Palmyra and Syria generally, it really makes you think about how best the world can protect and save these ancient wonders. It also puts a new perspective about the great museums of the world being protectors of antiquity, as I suspect that the fact this relief is in Edinburgh may be its saviour.
Anyway, sorry about being a bit sad, the world is still a wonderful place!
Hope you have all had a great Sunday.
