Clydeside memorial

I met friend Gill for lunch in the Beardmore Hotel before visiting her husband David in the Golden Jubilee Hospital next door. It was great to see him looking so well after his recent surgery.

This piece of sculpture in the hospital grounds is a memorial to
HMT Lancastria, which was built at the Beardmore Shipyard where the hotel and hospital now stand.

As you can see, the sinking of the Lancastria in World War II caused the greatest ever loss of life in British maritime history. I like the way the sculpture signifies the hull of the ship, but looks like a heart from one side.
