Domestics at Hare Hill House
Another Heritage Open Day and this Blip is inside Hare Hill House - Littleborough, Nr. Rochdale (see extras).
The Open Day was staffed by volunteers in period costume - these two charming ladies are Miss Tabitha, the Governess (centre) with her assistant in the nursery.
Hare Hill House is a relatively modest building compared to many - and was the home of a rich and influential businessman - Henry Newall.
It was bequeathed to the local community in 1901 and since then has been used as Council Offices and similar until Rochdale Council moved out in 2008 and left it in a sad state of disrepair.
The volunteers are an incredible bunch - full of knowledge and enthusiasm. They are working hard towards raising £400,000 to repair and refurbish the House.
I wish them all the luck in the world.
