Goldenrod

Various insects were enjoying the nectar on the Goldenrod flowers at a time when there are fewer flowers in the garden.  The yellow fronds of tiny daisy like flowers symbolise the arrival of autumn.
The flowers were used as a source of yellow dye and Native Americans used the plant for various ailments including toothache, sore throat and fatigue.
It has a fairly high rubber content in the leaves and the inventor Thomas Edison made tyres for the Model T car, which was given to him by his friend Henry Ford, using the rubber extracted from the leaves of goldenrod.
