A Glimpse of Nirvana?

Our first full day on Arran was a scorcher!

We spent most of the day acclimatising ourselves to our surroundings in Lamlash, stocking up on provisions and generally being beach bums which, we agreed, we both are at heart. And with a view like this across to Holy Isle, why move from the beach?

Holy Isle's spiritual heritage dates back at least to the 6th century when the hermit monk St Molaise lived there. A Christian monastery was built in the 13th century but in more recent years the Samyé Ling Buddhist Community has bought the island and has two bases there for retreats and courses. The rest of the island is a nature reserve.

After a few hours of mild panic because I had no phone signal and no internet access, I found myself rather relishing a return to the days of non-connectedness and non-attachment! Here's to a few more days cut off from the rest of the world!
