Bearing. Leitz Summicron 50mm DR
Over the course of several years, the constant side-bearing and torque effect of three heavy, wet towels had caused the lower support fixture of this towel rail to twist and push into the soft sheet-rock wall to which it is attached. It looked ugly and it irritated me every time I got out of the shower. After some background ruminating, I figured this solution. Those are little pads of 3mm MDF (medium density fiberboard) on which the fixtures now bear. It's much more suitable than sheet-rock as a bearing surface. Originally there were Napoleonic plans of making the pads of aluminum, brass or walnut. But MDF was in the house and so was a jar of the correct paint. Labor should follow the path of least resistance, no?
