Great North Run

A beautiful day and perfect conditions for the traditional display from the Red Arrows.

This is where I meet the good lady after her annual trip from Newcastle to South Shields; one of the world's largest road races.

It might only be 13 miles but it involves what is nearly 1000 miles of travelling by the time we get home from the long weekend.
We spent more time than usual at the band stand this year waiting for my sister in-law, who only decided to participate on the morning of the event. Needless to say her preparation could have been better.
While waiting for her to appear from the finish area we received a phone call saying she was still at 8 miles 'packed in ice', whatever that meant. After 2 hours of frantic searches for information from the emergency services on her whereabouts, she appeared with a finisher's medal around her neck. It had been eventful.

The Great North Run is a remarkable occasion - - one day I might even run it myself.
